Dead Mans Boots

Two more Sentinels suddenly went immobile, "Time to move out, they've got a fix on our position" Harzen issued as he noticed the two remaining pilots begun waving towards him. As he leapt from the lower branch of the trees he was hidden in, a man fully 6ft tall, with muscles that would make most Cadians proud, Harzen specialised in nearly every weapon going, ranging from plasma guns to sniper rifles to autocannons and heavy bolters. He has used them all at some time in his long career. "You know what time it is now, don't you? Enrich" enquired Harzen. "No sir, what would that be?" "RUN!" spat Harzen as the first bolts of autocannon fire begun raining in from the approaching Sentinels.
As the two men sprinted for their lives down the low gully running alongside some forest, a sudden movement caught his eye within the nearby forest. "Enrich, the forest" ushered Harzen. Harzen darted up the small hill towards the outskirts of the forest. Several more shells rained in above their heads as they made it through the outer lying trees of the forest.
Hork dropped from a not far from their position. The brute of a man over shadowed Harzen with sheer mass. Hork signalled with one hand his intent, raising his left hand across his right arm, then moving his fist up his right arm, ending at the shoulder. A salute, from the ancient Danitun traditions. As Hork finished saluting, he then pointed with two fingers that lead deeper into the woods. A shallow nod and as he turned to leave, he gave a passing glance back to where Hork had been. He had gone, leaving a sound of faint rustling of branches.
2 men and a women remained still has both Harzen and Enrich entered the small clearing their guns trained upon them. As soon as the Guardsmen realised who the two strangers were, they dropped their weapons and one of the Guardsmen except Perks and Cali gave Harzen shortened Danitun salutes. "Ah the Bandits..." spoke Harzen, "We are Danitun Guardsmen, I don't care what they call us" countered Cali, "I see your just as sharp as ever, Cali"
"Sharp? I've been fighting for too long now, I'm merely stating the facts" stated Cali, her face emotionless. Half a minute passed before any of the Guardsmen stirred. It was Harzen who broke the silence with a hearty laugh. "We have a force of Guardsmen out there, and I think their after me and Enrich here" "No doubt, so in other words, your saying you've probably led them here." Harzen nodded slowly "In that case, then, looks like I'm gonna have to lose a few more knives" Another smile cracked across his Harzen's face, but no laugh followed. "Recall our scouts" ushered Cali. "Oh, Perks, don't try to out do the Marshal this time." Perks nodded slowly.
The Bandits approached the edges of the forest with careful and gradual movements. Camo paint & camo netting adorned them. Anti-reflective grease was smeared across the metal of their lasguns, knifes and other shiny implements. The Bandits hung just behind the outermost tree line, visible. They watched and waited.
"Begin bombardment!" ordered Halgar, the vox operator nearby issued the orders to the Basilisk battery seconds later. The Bandits heard the loud boom of several Basilisks erupted into life. Within seconds, the first shells fell to earth, some slamming into the armoured tops of tanks, others hitting and slaughtering entire squads of troops. The mess the shells left was little more then fleshy ruin, the bodies of the Guardsmen that once stood there blow away as the shell hit. A few seconds later, the Bandits were in the mix.
Cali smashed a knife through the chest plate of her closet foe with a powerful two-handed downward cut. Perks and Harzen drew back, each secluded within the branches of thick and decades old trees. Picking their targets carefully, both Perks and Harzen's deadly accurate fire silenced more then a dozen before even the keen eyed Guardsmen of the enemy could spot them. Hork lifted the closest Guardsmen and smashed him against the front armour of his transport Chimera. The beast Hork howled as he continued his onslaught of the Armoured Fist squad. Cali fired rounds from her belt slung bolter as the remains of the Armoured Fist squad attempted to pile in upon the Danitun Veterans. Bloody sinew and bones rained milliseconds later as the explosive tipped shells of the bolter ripped apart entire Guardsmen in a spray of viscous blood. Behind her, Cali could here the battle taunts of Parsons and Dison as they let their shotguns rip part yet more Guardsmen as they milled around deciding to plunge into Cali or assault Hork.
Explosions ripped apart more Guardsmen. Cali knew, even here, they were upon the outer reaches of the Basilisk's range. A ghost at the back of her mind reminded her suddenly of the threat that their own guns bombardment posed. While she continued fighting, she kept an ear open for the sounds of the explosions as they fell.
A blast tore apart the closet enemy squad, "MOVE! Back to the Wounds!" Cali ordered. As the Bandits ran for cover of the forest, another barrage blossomed right above the Chimera of the Armoured Fist squad they had just slaughtered to a man. "12 meters" "12 meters?" enquired Perks, Cali's eyes fixed upon the smoking wreck of the Chimera that was just hit, "12 meter dead zone... If we had been there a few more seconds, and we would of been dead now..."
